An old-age tradition of our culture. Our artisans, who have perfected the art of crocheting/beading are Kenyan women from remote rural villages. They handcraft individual products to our specifications, earning income for their families while keeping their precious craft traditions alive for future generations.
Background Story
A Vision Born from Adversity
The visionary behind Hawi Designs grew up in a community where poverty was a daily reality. From an early age, Sandra witnessed the harsh challenges her peers faced—dropping out of school due to a lack of basic needs and the prevalence of early pregnancies. These experiences deeply affected her and instilled in her a burning desire to break this cycle of poverty.
Balancing Passion and Profession
Despite the odds, She pursued her education and became a teacher, a profession she was passionate about. However, her love for fashion and design always lingered in the background. What started as a hobby, creating beautiful handmade pieces, soon became a powerful tool for change. She realized that through her designs, she could not only express her creativity but also make a significant impact on her community.
Founding Hawi Designs
In 2021, driven by her vision to empower women and transform lives, Sandra founded Hawi Designs. She took a bold step, leaving her teaching career to fully immerse herself in her passion. Sandra's goal was to support local skilled women who excel in beadwork, crocheting, bag making, and mat making. By providing these artisans with fair wages and a stable source of income, she aimed to uplift their lives and improve their quality of life and those around them.
